JEFF CANNATA
Jeff Cannata (often recognized by his recording moniker Arc Angel) is a Connecticut-based multi-instrumentalist, singer and record producer. Best known for the critically acclaimed 1983 self-titled album Arc Angel, he blends progressive rock, art rock, and melodic AOR.
He is also a founding member of the 1970s prog-rock group Jasper Wrath. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Cannata's career began as a drummer, eventually evolving into a multi-instrumentalist who sings and plays drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, and woodwinds.
In the 1970s, he spearheaded the New Haven-based group Jasper Wrath, which toured extensively until their disbandment in 1976. Following the dissolution of Jasper Wrath, Cannata pivoted to a massive, melody-driven solo and studio project.
He partnered with former bandmate Michael Soldan and caught the attention of Portrait/CBS Records, releasing the bombastic Arc Angel debut in 1983. The record featured the popular tracks "Stars" and "Tragedy," and included contributions from musicians like Jeff Bova and future Bon Jovi bassist Hugh McDonald.
Produced with the assistance of legendary industry figures such as Tony Bongiovi, Lennie Petze and Lance Quinn (Bon Jovi), Arc Angel as an album is - to date - still highly regarded among the melodic rock community.
Transitioning strictly to the name Cannata, a few years later during 1988, Jeff returned with the ‘Images Of Forever’ album, through the French label Carrere, distributed through CBS. It was a lush symphonic set that integrated progressive and AOR leanings with all the modern hi-tech tools of that era.
This continued with the 1993 release of ‘Watching the World’ on the UK Label, Now And Then: a stirring combination of Styx and Yes-like commercialism. Later in 2002, Jeff returned with his album ‘Tamorok’ on the Swedish Label, Atenzia, and in 2006 “Mysterium Magnum” on Oxford Circus, which went more in a Progressive musical landscape, both of which have received great critical acclaim, especially in Europe, and are generally considered as some of the finest slices of AOR Music of their time. Most recently “Harlequins of Light” released on Frontiers Records.
Jeff is now back with 'A Kaleidoscope of Madness' under the brand new Arc Angel - Cannata banner.
