JOHN DEPRIEST
Hailing from North Mississippi, but based in Bulbancha (New Orleans) following a stint in Nashville, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, John DePriest, has been slinging banjo around the South for years. In addition to performing with Cajun, Country, Funk, and Americana bands including Carolyn Broussard, Charlie Wooton, and Marshland, he is the bandleader, lead singer, and songwriter for the bluegrass country funk band Bogue Chitto, who were nominated by OffBeat Magazine as the Best Emerging Artist in 2022. In honor of his Choctaw heritage, he recently completed work on his first solo album exploring and adapting traditional and original Choctaw music, for which he was awarded a Monroe Fellowship from the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South. He recently planned and promoted the second annual Bulbancha Bluegrass and Old-Time Fest in December 2024 and was awarded a residency for June 2025 at A Studio in the Woods. He will be releasing his debut solo album Taloa Haklo in the Spring of 2025 through Deko Entertainment.
