PASSING TIME

In concept, Passing Time was founded by keyboardist Sam (I Be/ R.I.) DiGangi in response to the accusation that “electronic” music didn’t have “any soul.” Noting that the reason for this allegation was that much of the music was programmed instead of actually being played, he set out to alter the course of the entire genre. To accomplish this, Passing Time moved away from programming much of anything (though some of the early works are still performed which were programmed), choosing, instead, to play all of the parts. This meant that if there was an orchestral section, then DiGangi played every note of every instrument being conveyed on a keyboard. This was done to all bass parts, keyboard lines, noises, and even the drums!

In time, countless different members were seen onstage, bringing the musical creations to life. This is something that still happens when the live arena lends itself to such a structure. At other times, DiGangi looms alone; just he, his keyboards, microphone, and etherealness. He plays all of the major parts of every song live, and the elements of the music that remain pre-recorded are, again, still music that was played (at some point) by the hand of the founder.

In terms of mood, Passing Time writes about the more brooding elements of life: sorrow, regret, late repentance, political fury, and the macabre. Even here, the project separates itself from its peers by embracing the Gothic atmosphere without contriving elements of satanism into it, choosing to frighten and enlighten with elements that send everyone into the shadows, not only those who believe a certain way.

As a result, Passing Time is just as welcomed by the mosh pit as they are by the basement clubs of the underground. DiGangi has such diversity that he has arranged mash-ups for both Zomby Boi and King Vee, with King Vee choosing him to guest on a verse for his single, "Scars."

DiGangi has appeared numerous times with punk rock puppet masters, Green Jello, as their keyboardist (under the name A. Moat's Art). Passing Time has been honored by having been booked with My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, In This Moment, Pop Will Eat Itself, Front Line Assembly, Mercury Rev, U.S.S.A, and countless others.
